Planned following the discovery of water in the barren area of central Egypt. The village was meant to create an agricultural community.
In the designing of the village the architect studied both the already existing village of Kharga and also the traditional building methods in this area with extreme temperatures during the summer. Another consideration in the process was the necessity for cool storage for the agricultural products. This lead the architect to use natural systems as the formative force in organizing the village. The souk and marked place is thus placed in the middle of the village. The houses are placed along linear north-south axis to take advantage of the shading provided naturally. This is further developed in the houses themselves as they are organized around courtyards.
Planned for 250 families - half farmers and half service personnel.
