'The Grand Medina is a 1,000 unit housing programme in Dakar. The principal goal of the project was to provide housing and to introduce social standards previously not known in Senegal. For each of three income groups (very-low, low, and middle) the plot area, the total built area, ceiling height, materials, sanitary equipment, and total costs were standardised. The construction system employs reinforced concrete and concrete blocks. Roofing is corrugated asbestos-cement. All concrete elements were cast in-situ, and only the sanitary and electrical installations were not of Senegalese provenance.' From the Aha Khan archive. INTERESTING PROJECT AS IT TRIES TO INTRODUCE A NEW TYPE OF HOUSING IN SENEGAL AND IS PRODUCED MAINLY BY NATIONAL MATERIALS. INTRODUCES A NEW PHASE IN THE HOUSING POLITICS.
