The year of foundation is 1924 when the first gold deposits were found. The mining settlement called Nezametny was granted a city status in 1932 and in 1939 renamed into Aldan. The town experienced crisis and population decline in 1990s, but since the year of 2000 the town's economy and population have stabilized mainly due to the construction of oil pipeline.
