Started as Rastorguyevo summer cottage community in 1902. In 1949 settlement of Vidnoye was established for workers at the newly built Moscow Coke and Gas Works factory. Vidnoye was granted town status in 1965. Vidnoye placed in category of "Most Developed and Comfortable City of Russia" with the population below 100.000 in 2006.
