source: http://tpf.eu/pt-pt/proje cts/city-of-zango-i/ In 2006 the Government of Angola announced the relocation of Gika and Chicala residents, in order to implement a project of redevelopment of the coastal area, providing it with office buildings, luxury hotels, tourist facilities and beachfront nightclubs. The Governement ensure the population involved in the resettlement program that they would be replaced, square meter for square meter in Zango new town, 10 km South-East from Luanda. The remoteness of the area is one of the problem concerning the new site and generating dissatisfaction among the residents: the people of Zango lack the time to commute to their old jobs, there’s not even a bus that will carry them.
