The planning and construction of Al Shorouk was established by the presidential decree n. 325 in 1995, to cope with Cairo’s fast growing population and rapid spread through the desert started in 1970s. It is expected to house a population of 500.000 inhabitants, but at the moment it counts 170.000 residents.
