New Minya was established by Cabinet decree (278/1986), its construction works began actually in 1991 and the cordon of the city was modified by Presidential Decree in 2004. It lies north east of the Nile, 250 Km far from Cairo.
The total area of ​​the city is 24.6 thousand acres and built up area is 6.5 thousand acres.
The total number of housing units is 34670 thousand of which 15100 implemented by New Urban Communities Authority and 19990 implemented by private sector.
