Introduction
Laatzen is located in the Niedersachsen region near Hannover. Laatzen was in its present form founded in 1969, when the government of Niedersachsen ordered to form a commission for the development of the town. This commission was soon to be called the 'Weberkomission' because of the influence of prof. dr. Werner Weber. Building activities started after the agreement concerning the transformation of the area was signed. In 1974 the municipality of Laatzen was established and Gleidingen ended.

Urban plan and design
Laatzen was planned with a good traffic structure. Laatzen is connected to the highway A7 and the S-Bahn to Hannover. The roads B6 and B443 leaded through the city itself.

Present situation
In 2007 Laatzen counted 40,131 inhabitants.
